All India Pre-Medical / Dental Test
The AIPMT is reputed as one of the most challenging entrance examinations in India. AIPMT stands for the All India Pre-Medical / Dental Test. It is done by applicants who want to get admission into various medical colleges in India. Those who want to study medicine and the special branch of dentistry will have to sit the AIPMT before entry into any medical school in India. Candidates who want to sit the AIPMT must be at least 17 years of age and 25 years of age in the maximum. Applicants who have not attained the age of 17 can apply provided they will have attained this age by the end of 2011. Candidates who belong to scheduled castes and tribes can apply even if they are older than 25 years of age, provided they are not older than 30 years of age. Candidates must have passed well in physics, chemistry, biology and English with an aggregate of at least 50%. Scheduled caste and tribes’ candidate must have passed with at least 40% in these primary subjects. All candidates can sit the AIPMT more than once, but they will not be allowed to sit the examination more than three times.
The AIPMT exam has objective questions and the pattern changes year after year. To prevent too much predictability the AIPMT always makes sure the pattern of the examination changes, but you can expect to be tested in all the subjects that have been mentioned above. Details of the AIPMT will be released when the date of the exam is near. AIPMT is one of the most popular entry exams in India and has a lot of competition. Medicine is a very competitive field with hundreds of thousands of applications received each year. There are always two phases of the AIPMT examination, the preliminary examination and the main examination. Those who have passed the preliminary examination will be allowed to sit the main exam. Those who have not passed well will not be allowed. This is done in an effort to reduce the number of applicants to something that can be managed.
The AIPMT is conducted by the central board of secondary education and admissions are made to medical schools run by the central and state governments and municipal authorities all over India except in Jammu, Andhra Pradesh and Kashmir. This means that candidates who come from Jammu, Kashmir and Andhra Pradesh will not be allowed to sit this examination. This is an exam for Indian nationals strictly, so proof of this will be required. Indian citizenship and domicile has to be proven. Candidates who are physically handicapped have been given special consideration in AIPMT and their marks have been relaxed to 45%. The final examination is normally done two weeks after the first one. There is a reservation of 15% of the seats in AIPMT for candidates from scheduled castes and tribes and 15% for those who are physically handicapped.
Applications can be made online and offline. Most applications for AIPMT are done online because of the speed and convenience of the internet. Offline applications are much slower and have been used by those without access to the internet. Online submission can be made by accessing the website of the AIPMT examination and after the payment of the online fee using credit card or debit card. Online application is cheaper than offline applications because there is no paperwork. It is cheaper by Rs. 100 to apply online than offline. You can apply offline using the prescribed application forms which are available for the general category applicants and the scheduled castes and tribe’s applications. Applicant can send a written request and a demand draft to the central board of secondary education to get the application form.
