AIMS Test for Management Admissions

AIMS Test for Management Admissions (ATMA) is an eligibility exam for entry into management institutes which are under AIMS. AIMS is an association of management institutes of India which conducts the AIMS Test for Management Admissions (ATMA) test and helps its institutes to select students into its respective programs. This exam is held in high esteem, having been approved by the human resource development of India for admissions into business programs such as MBA among others. Master’s programs like MBA require the applicant to have a bachelor’s degree in any of the business fields that have been listed by the respective university the applicant may want to join. There are some universities and colleges that have relaxed this by allowing any degree holders to study for their MBA. Experience in the field of management or in the respective degree courses is not a must but will be of added advantage for anyone who applies for a management program in any of the colleges.

AIMS Test for Management Admissions (ATMA)exam is designed to test the business knowledge of any applicant in to the institutions of business under AIMS. It consists of a paper of 170 questions divided into 6 sections and last for three hours. The AIMS Test for Management Admissions (ATMA) exam tests analytical reasoning, verbal skills and quantitative skills of the applicant.

In analytical reasoning, the applicant’s logical thinking is put to the test and does not necessarily require any expertise in any field. Reasoning is more important and this is what this part of the exam is all about. The application of reasoning is very important for the candidate. The questions in this section will require the candidate to analyze situations that have been given to him and from his reasoning give the most logical answer for the question. Sets of questions will be provided in part of the paper and your logical analysis of the situation will be tested.

As for the quantitative skills, the AIMS Test for Management Admissions (ATMA) exam will measure how good you are at reasoning and interpreting data. The applicant will answer question relating to arithmetic, elementary algebra and geometry as well as data sufficiency. Unless specifically stated no specific figure has been drawn to scale and you have to use your mathematical knowledge here to solve any problem.

When it comes to verbal skills, your standard of written English will be tested. You will be tested on how good you are at interpreting, reasoning and evaluating arguments. The multiple questions will involve reading comprehension, sentence construction, word meanings and sentence completion. Your understanding of the English language will be put to the test in this section so you will be expected to know how to read and write well.

Multiple choice questions will have four multiples, where you will be expected to choose the right answer. You need to take time to familiarize yourself with the questions especially those that are concerned with logical reasoning. Sets of questions are especially long so you need to be able to relate each one of them. Allot time to each question and take time to read carefully and answer each one of them. You are not expected to answer all the questions and when you feel as if a question has already tackled a subject you have already answered, you can skip them. The results for the AIMS Test for Management Admissions (ATMA) exams that were done for 2011 intake were released on January 2011. The date of the exam for the 2012 intake is expected to be late 2011 and the official date will be communicated later.
