COMEDK

Consortium of Medical Engineering Dental Colleges of Karnataka

This is an entrance exam for medical and dental colleges in the state of Karnataka. This is done by those who want to pursue postgraduate courses in these colleges in this state and is conducted in Bangalore. COMEDK is highly involving and requires a lot of hard work and dedication. Candidates who want to sit for the Consortiumof Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnatakamust have passed well in their undergraduate courses. They must have attained a mean of 50% in their undergraduate medical courses. This mark has been relaxed for special candidates belonging to scheduled castes and tribes. They have to attain at least 40% in aggregate to be allowed to sit the COMEDK. Applicants who are yet to finish their medical internships can apply provided that they will have finished their internships on or before the date of the examination.

COMEDK lasts three hours and has a total of 180 questions that include mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology examinations. The combination you will take depends on what you want to pursue. The physics and chemistry paper is combined and compulsory for all the candidates.  The biology and mathematics paper will depend on the person’s choice of course. Those who want to pursue engineering courses will sit the mathematics paper and those in the medical field will sit the biology paper. All the papers have 60 multiple choice questions and last one hour each. The 2011 COMEDK examination has already been done and applicants wishing to seek admission have to wait until the 2012 COMEDK examination. Applicants are expected to liaise with the COMEDK website for more information

Applicants must have been in institutions that are recognized by the COMEDK administration. They must have passed well in their undergraduate and obtained registration in the medical council of India before admission. This is a condition that has to be fulfilled; otherwise the candidate will not be allowed to sit the COMEDK examination. Only Indian nationals are allowed to sit this examination, even those who have degrees from universities abroad. In their cases, they have to pay the requisite fees for registration into the medical council for the duration of the course in India. The foreign university has to be recognized and so its degree.

The candidates must have attained at least a 50% passing grade or 40% for students from scheduled castes and tribes.  50% aggregate marks are expected of candidates in general merit classes and 40% for those who belong to backward classes in the state of Karnataka only. The scores from the COMEDK examination are only valid for one year, so one cannot use them to gain admission to the university after several years. One can sit the examinations several times provided he fulfills all the required conditions each time. There was a different entrance test for candidates who wanted to pursue medical postgraduate courses and those who wanted the dental course in 2011.

Candidates can make applications for the COMEDK examination online and offline depending on what is available to them. Given the speed and efficiency of online applications, it is expected that most people will apply using the internet. Since most people do not have access to the internet and many more cannot make payments using credit cards and debit cards, a good number of them prefer to make applications offline, which has been provided for. The offline applications are expected to reach the COMEDK administration before the end of the deadline otherwise they will not be accepted. Demand draft also accompanies offline applications and this is means to meet the expenses of the test among others.
