EAMCET
Engineering Agricultural and Medical Common Entrance Test
EAMCET stands for Engineering Agricultural and Medical Common Entrance Testwhich is done annually for entrance into engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh. This exam is conducted by JNT University in Hyderabad and is a way for entry into many professional government colleges as well as private institutions. The courses include those that are medicine oriented and engineering courses. The courses for which one will have to sit the EAMCET examination to qualify include veterinary science, horticulture, food science, business management and pharmacy. The EAMCET consists of 160 questions, with several subjects that are primary in the courses that are being offered in these institutions. Physics and chemistry will be tested as well as mathematics, all with four options of answers. One question has four multiple answers. One has to have a pass in high school examination which has been conducted by a board recognized by EAMCET. Those students whose results are still pending will be allowed to sit their exams but will only be given admission to these institutions if they secure a pass in their final exam. This means that even if a candidate passes the EAMCET and fails the final examination of his former institution, he will not be admitted. Candidates have to be natives of Andhra Pradesh and 22 years of age is the upper limit for medical candidates expect those in the SC/CT category. There is no upper age limit for those who want to study engineering.
For one to be considered for the many admission places in the universities in this state, one has to pass with at least 25% of the total mark. This means that one needs to have 40 marks out of the possible 160 to be considered as having passed the examination. Students from scheduled castes and tribes are treated differently by the EAMCET since they do not have a minimum passing grade for the EAMCET examination. These candidates always have a reservation in the universities in Andhra Pradesh. Usually, all scheduled castes and tribes candidates are offered admission once they have filled their reserved seats.
When the results are announced all the students will have been ranked according to their performance in the state. Usually, many students will sit this examination and a small percentage of them will have passed well enough to be offered admission. There is a state ranking system that will place all the students according to their performance in the EAMCET examination. There are many students who score the same marks in the EAMCET and they will be ranked depending on their performance in individual subjects. Those who have higher marks in math or biology will be ranked higher than the rest and in the event that this is still persisting, those who score higher in physics and chemistry will be ranked higher.
Online counseling has been introduced for students who want to sit this exam. The EAMCET advises students to list their preferred courses and universities depending on preference. Then, depending on your position in the final rank, you will be allowed to enter into a university of your choice. The lower in ranking you are, the lesser the chances that you will enter the university you want. It is therefore important that one gets a higher rank relative to the colleges he applied to. Application for the exams can be done online, which is the preference of the masses, but for those who are not able to access the internet there is always the option of using post. Applications can be gotten by liaising with the respective universities. The 2011 EAMCET examination has been postponed till 22nd May 2011 due to unavoidable circumstances; all applicants are required to gear up for the examination.
