Gujarat Secondary Examination Board
Gujarat Secondary Education Board (GSEB) conducts the Secondary School Certificate examination and the Higher Secondary (School) Certificate (HSC) exam for standard 10 and 12 respectively. Gujarat Secondary Education Board was started in 1972 and has for the last 38 years grown in quality and thus also increased in influence all over India. Students who sit and pass these two examinations are considered eligible to join the various colleges and universities all over India. This is because the standards of this examination are recognized by the administrations of many universities and colleges all over India. The members of this board are drawn from academic organizations and civil society organizations. It is the work of this organization to organize examinations for the schools under its influence and make sure it provides a reliable image of secondary education in its area of influence. Gujarat Secondary Education Board has 16 ex-officio members and 44 members.
The Gujarat Secondary Education Board examinations are of high quality and are recognized as a perfect mirror of the performance of the candidates who are undertaking it. It is the work of the Gujarat Secondary Education Board to prepare the syllabi of the secondary schools under it as well. In other words, it is not only its work to overlook the performance of the examinations it is responsible for. It is the work of the Gujarat Secondary Education Board to register secondary schools under it and monitor the academic performance of the school from time to time.
Candidates who sit the exams set by Gujarat Secondary Education Board are supposed to hail from Gujarat and are domiciled there. They must have lived in Gujarat and studied there for some time as well. The proof of domicile has to be given for one to be allowed to sit this examination. A candidate has to satisfy this board that he has sat and passed the Secondary School Certificate examination satisfactorily to be allowed to sit the Higher Secondary (School) Certificate (HSC) exam. There is an exception to the rule of domicile for those whose parents work for the central government or the state government and are not necessarily domiciled in Gujarat. Any secondary exam that may have been done by candidates who do not live in Gujarat has to be recognized by the board. There is also an age limit for this test.
The Gujarat Secondary Education Board oversees the development of education in the secondary schools that are under it. This board will look into the management of the schools and give independent advice, if the academic performance of the school is wanting. School management is one of the core values of the Gujarat Secondary Education Board and it frames the rules and regulations for management and ensuring their implementation to the latter. It is the work of this board to see to it that the examinations it is setting year after year are credible and have excellent evaluation systems that will ensure their improvement after a period of time. This board also makes follow-ups on the implementations of the suggestions it makes to schools and other institutions of learning under its influence. Gujarat Secondary Education Board offers bright and needy students the scholarships they need to study. It encourages IT development and suggest the books to be used in government schools among others. Aside from suggesting what schools can do to perform better, the Gujarat Secondary Education Board evaluates and inspects schools to see if they are keeping up with the standards expected of them by the government and the board as well. The two examinations; the Secondary School Certificate examination and the Higher Secondary (School) Certificate (HSC) exam that were done last year will have their results on June 3rd 2011.
