IIT JEE

Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination

There are seventeen Indian Institutes of Technology in India belonging to this association. All of these institutions have a joint entrance examination, the IIT-JEE which is used for gauging the admissibility of its candidates to these institutions. All these institutions do not have any other criterion of determining the admission into its undergraduate programs. IIT-JEE is reputed for being one of the toughest examinations in the world and most of the applicants fail.  The standards of academics in the colleges in this association are very high and this is the reason only one in forty applicants will pass to be admitted to the IIT colleges in India. Applicants who pass this examination will be eligible for undergraduate course in technology, design architecture among others.  Depending on the application, applicants could get admitted for dual degrees in these institutions. Passing the IIT-bJEE shows the impressive academic ability of the applicant, thus the ability to work on two degrees at the same time.

This is a rather unpredictable exam, so there is no specific pattern. Most of the time, some subjects will be tested more than other subjects and this variation has been made to increase the accuracy of the results. It will increase the chances of the institutions ending up with the brightest of minds in the market too.  This is also a multiple choice examination and nothing about this exam can be predicted from one year to the next. Usually, there are two papers consisting of mathematics physics and chemistry questions. The age limit for the applicants of this examination is 25 years but of the special interest groups, the age limit is 30 years. Special interest groups include those in specific castes and tribes and those who are physically challenged. One has to prove that he is in one of these interest groups to sit the exam.

The candidate must have passed a public examination at the end of high school education and in the absence of a public examination must have passed a pre-university examination.  This means that it is also open for foreign students this is an examination done in the month of April. It was recently held on April 10th 2011 and out of the 450000 applicants, only 13000 have been selected as qualified for admission into the seventeen colleges

Application forms can be gotten from any branch of the seventeen colleges and some banks. The fees for the application are Rs. 1000 for regular applicants and Rs. 500 for applicants in special interest groups as well as female applicants. Special interest group applicants will use a white envelope while the rest will use blue envelopes. Online application requires the following of all the requirements very cautiously. Any applications that are not well done or are received late will not be allowed.  Application fee payment is important, especially for those who are sending their applications online.

Applicants from special interest groups have reserved seats among the applicants, and will be given 15% reservations. In the IIT's there will be a 7.5% reservation for special interest groups for those from scheduled castes and tribes. Candidates who are physically disabled have been given a 3% reservation as well. Reservations have been made for the dependants of servicemen killed or disabled in the course of their official duties. Those who have not necessarily qualified to apply for this exam can be allowed to sit the examination for as long as the space has been left vacant (even after special reservations were made for special interest groups) and for as long as they have passed relatively well.  Next years exam dates will be set in due course.
