Kerala Law Entrance Exam

The southern State of Kerala in India is proud of its highest literacy rate in the country. Numerous schools, colleges, universities and other institutes impart high quality education to thousands of students. The State of Kerala has multi-faculty universities where medicine, engineering, business, law and other courses are taught. The admission to these universities is through entrance tests.

The KLEE or the Kerala Law Entrance Exam is conducted by the Commissioner for the Entrance Exam for those who have chosen law as their profession and intend to study it. Entrance tests are also held at the post graduate level. The entrance tests are held simultaneously at various locations within the state in the month of July; the candidates can choose the location according to their convenience. The candidate should be a native of India from Kerala.

After clearing the Kerala Law Entrance Exam, the candidates will be eligible to apply in prestigious institutes such as Govt. Law College, Thiruvananthapuram, Govt. Law College, Thrissur, Govt. Law College, Ernakulam and Govt. Law College, Kozhikode.

Eligibility for L.LB program

The State of Kerala offers two L.LB programs; a five year course and a three year program. The educational qualification required for the five year program is intermediate or any other equivalent from the Kerala State Board. Candidates who have appeared from other boards recognized by the State Board of Kerala and are acceptable to the Bar Council of India can also apply. The candidates should have scored at least 40% marks in the intermediate exam. The minimum marks for those candidates belonging to the scheduled tribe and scheduled castes are 35%. The minimum age for the candidates is 17 years and there is no upper limit range.

The candidate should be a graduate in any discipline with a minimum of 40% marks for the three year L.LB law course. The Kerala Law Entrance Exam for L.LB is conducted in the English language only and lasts for two and a half hours or 150 minutes. During this time the students would be asked to answer objective type questions. These questions are mostly multiple choice questions where candidates have to choose one option from four. Eligibility for Master’s Program

The L.LM course offered by the various universities of Kerala is a two year long program and candidates who have successfully completed the five year L.LB program or the three year L.LB program can apply for it. Those Candidates who will appear in the final year exam can also apply.

Those interested in pursuing a master’s degree in law (L.LM) also need to clear the Kerala Law Entrance Exam. It is different from the exam conducted for the L.LB program and requires the candidate to have thorough knowledge of various aspects of laws. The minimum marks required for this course are 40% but the candidates from scheduled castes and scheduled tribes need only 35% marks to apply. There is no upper age limit for the candidates.

The Kerala Law Entrance Exam carries negative marking and the candidate is advised to leave the question if he/she is not sure of the answer. Also if more than one answer is marked then too the question will be treated as incorrect.
