ORISSA Joint Entrance Examination
Orissa Joint Entrance Examination is an examination for the admission of candidates into the management, pharmacy and technical courses in the state of Orissa. Orissa-JEE was meant to consolidate all the entrance examination in the state of Orissa under one umbrella exam that would cater for all of them. This helps a lot since it was going to save a lot of time and money for anyone who wanted to sit the examination. The uniformity in the admission standards of all the courses in Orissa has its benefits since this exam is now seen as a high standard one. The Orissa-JEE is applicable to all the universities in the state of Orissa and given its reputation for being one of high quality, it is the reason why many more institutions are going for it. Many institutions are subject to the Orissa-JEE including government and private universities and colleges.
Orissa-JEE was started in 1979 and was first done by R.E.C. Rourkela; one of the first engineering colleges in Orissa. At the moment there are many more colleges that are subject to Orissa-JEE and many more disciplines that fall under the umbrella of Orissa-JEE. At the moment the disciplines include pharmacy, management, hotel management and catering, architecture and engineering courses among others. It is expected that in the near future all the disciplines in the universities in Orissa will be subject to this one examination’s standards. The numbers of colleges and universities that are subject to Orissa-JEE’s selection are increasing and so is the demand for applicants who want to sit the examination. To colleges and institutions of higher learning, this is one of the most respected means of selection of candidates for their programs.
For one to be admitted into engineering technology, one needs to pass in physics, mathematics and either chemistry, computer science, biology and biotechnology. There are different combinations of subjects for different engineering degree courses so one needs to make sure he has looked at the specific combination of subjects for his course. The marks attained must be at least 60% in all the subjects. For those who want to pursue pharmacy, the pass must be 60% and one must pass in mathematics, computer science, and biology. Those who have a diploma in pharmacy must have passed with an aggregate of 60%. MBBS candidates need a pass of at least 50% in physics, chemistry and biology and must be between the ages of 17 and 25. For those who are in the category of special needs, the age limit has been relaxed to three years, meaning their maximum age can be up to 28.
Masters programs admissions are also subject to Orissa-JEE. For admission into computer application, the subject that is core is mathematics. The same is the case for the MBA program which also needs a relevant bachelor’s degree from a university recognized by Orissa-JEE. Universities have their different standards for admission into programs such as MBA, so one has to make sure he has abided by them. For lateral entry, one needs to have passed his examinations with at least 60% aggregate and a high grade in mathematics. Lateral entry into second year pharmacy requires a first division pass (60% aggregate) and an exceptional pass in biology. Candidates who are not domiciled in Orissa are not eligible for admission in to government run colleges, but can get admissions into private institutions. The paper has 60 questions with multiple choices. Each answer has four marks and for every incorrect answer a mark is deducted. The syllabus of this exam is the secondary school syllabus. The dates for the Orissa-JEE 2011 exam have already been set at 18th April 2011.
