Vellore Institute of Technology Entrance Exam

This is the entry exam for the Vellore Institute of Technology, one of the highest ranking institutions of higher learning in India. VITEEE stands for Vellore Institute of Technology Entrance Exam, one of the most transparent of entry exams in India. VIT positions are in high demand in India and applicants go through a rigorous application procedure to get places in the institution. There are many professional courses offered in Vellore Institute of Technology and each one of these requires a candidate to the take Vellore Institute of Technology Entrance Exam. The institution offers rigorous training, with two CAT (Continuous Assessment Tests) in between the semester and the final exam to track the academic progress of the students.

Eligibility for Vellore Institute of Technology Entrance Exam is dependent on the age of the applicant and the maximum age for an applicant for the Vellore Institute of Technology Entrance Exam is 21 years. In other words, any applicant needs to have been born on or after 1st July 1989 to be considered a candidate for the Vellore Institute of Technology Entrance Exam. This applies to the exam that is to be sat in 2011 and will change accordingly as the years progress. Anyone born before 1st July 1989 will not be considered for the exam but this rule has been relaxed for the students who are physically or socially disadvantaged, although only by three years. In other words, no one will be allowed to sit the examination if he is more than 24 years of age, whether or not he is physically or socially disadvantaged. The candidate must have passed in the sciences and mathematics, with a minimum of 60% passing grade in physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. Eligible candidates should hail from Jammu and Kashmir and generally from north eastern India, as candidates from any other part of India are not eligible. Applicants from other parts of India will not be given priority although those whose parents have worked for the state government are considered. For those who passed the combination subjects of physics, chemistry and biology, they are restricted to B.Tech courses, Bioinformatics, and biotechnology programs.

Given the competition for the limited spaces in the Vellore Institute of Technology, the Vellore Institute of Technology Entrance Exam is very tough. The exam consists of a single paper with four sections and the candidate will be expected to sit for the one that his respective course requires of him. All the papers have 40 questions and 40 marks. Each candidate will be expected to attempt at least three sections depending on the combination of subjects in the course he is applying for. The paper is two and a half hours long.

B.Tech courses in the Vellore Institute of Technology involves bioinformatics, biotechnology civil engineering electronics & communication engineering, electronics & instrumentation engineering, mechanical engineering, bio-medical engineering, chemical engineering, computer science & engineering, electrical & electronics engineering, information technology and mechanical & energy engineering. Each of the courses above has different combinations of science and mathematics subjects, so it is upon the person to ensure he is sitting for the exam and attempting the right sections. The date of the entrance exam for the Vellore Institute of Technology has been set at the third week of April 2011. The application forms had already been made available as at December 2010 and the final application forms were received in the last week of February 2011. Anyone who was not able to apply as at that date can attempt to do so when the next entrance exams will be done.
