XAT

XLRI Admission Test

XAT has been conducted for half a century or so by the XLRI for management courses in India. There are more than 60 institutions of management that use this as selection criteria for its management courses. Unlike many entrance level examinations, the XAT is done before a candidate makes an application for a management course. Usually, this is a criterion of many management institutions and candidates are admitted depending on their XAT scores. After sitting the XAT one has to make sure he has made his application and fulfilled all the other admission criteria of the institutions he wants to become part of. There are many test criteria all over India as this is an examination that does not have state boundaries. Large cities will have more than one XAT center to serve its candidates.

This exam has two parts, the essay test and the written test. The essay test lasts twenty minutes and the written test lasts two and a half hours. You will be required to write an essay on the topic that has been given and the assessment will de done depending on how good you are at written English.

Several management institutions accept the standards of XAT. It is not odd to find an institution accepting the standards of many other national tests as well. The standards of XAT have been tried and proven and this is a test that has the benefit of experience and history behind it. Among the institutions of management that accept the standards of XAT are the Indian institute of management training and the international school of business and research.

Exam dates are released towards the end of the year, since   this is an examination done in the month of January. More details as to the examination dates and centers are available in the XLRI website. The examination will test your mathematical skills as well as logical reasoning, some of the skills that are required for anyone who wants to break into the world of business. You will be required to display your administrative and business skills as well. It is imperative that the applicant has good written English as well, since you will need good English to write an essay and pass well. There are many other aspects of business that will be tested in the written tests, and the scores will determine which among the institutions you are eligible to join. It is advisable to have in mind the institutions you want to be part of and then research on their admission requirements, which will help you to read for your XAT examination.

The selection criteria in the participating business institutions differ depending on the different courses that are being offered in them. Undergraduate courses require a pass in mathematics, English and business studies or in any of the humanities. One has to display a good score in his final high school-leaving examination to be admitted for a professional business course. The criteria for admission into the postgraduate business courses depend on the institution. Most postgraduate business courses require a bachelor’s degree in the least. It is an added advantage if the undergraduate degree is business-oriented but there are no hard and fast rules. XAT will determine if you fit the criteria or not. Applicants who have not done their final undergraduate examinations can apply too but they need to have a high score. This is a relative condition, so it depends on the institutions one wants to join. After the XAT, candidates will be interviewed personally or in a group and the admissions will be communicated to the selected candidates personally or online.
