This country has some of the best universities with a high standard of education. Compared to the United States, education in Australia is cheaper and so is the cost of living in Australia. You will have hundreds of courses to choose from in Australian universities thanks to the fact that it has diverse degree programs. When it comes to technological resources in its universities, Australia is one of the most advanced, meaning that you will have some of the best facilities in the world.

Students who study in Australia have relative freedom compared to those who study in the United States. This means that you can work while studying, although the hours have been regulated to only 20 hours in a week. However, you can work during vacations on a fulltime basis, which will give you the chance to fund your education as well. This is the reason why studying in Australia is so popular compared to other studying institutions.

Australian colleges and institutions of higher learning offer bachelor degrees, graduate certificates and diplomas, master’s degrees and doctoral degrees. Australian universities have diverse calendars, but most of them run their activities from March to November and divide this period into two semesters. Always make sure you are aware of the calendar of the institution you are applying for. New admissions are done in March but some institutions admit in July or some other time in between March and September depending on the course you are applying for.

For an undergraduate course you need to have finished high school and obtained a certificate from the relevant examination authority. You must have passed all the requisite subjects you are applying for. Graduate courses require a person to have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study. It requires a person to have graduated at least two years before or one year before if it is an honours bachelor’s degree.

One needs to send an application at least a year before admission into the institutions. You can get the application form by email from the university you want to apply to or download from the website of the university. Most institutions will have their admission information on their websites so it’s important to make sure you have satisfied their admission criteria when making the application. You can get information and application forms from representatives of the universities in your country of origin.

To study in Australia one has to pass the IELTS, which measures the ability of the person to communicate in English. It also measures the ability of the person to write well in English. This examination has to be applied for before the admission date. Applications require the payment of the test fees, two passport sized photographs, passport photocopy or the national identity card of the applicant.

Applicants for undergraduate courses require transcripts, school results and a letter of recommendation from your former school and a certificate to the effect that you passed the IELTS test. Postgraduate applicants require academic transcripts as well, a CV, evidence of scholarship or any other kind of financial support and an outline of the proposed research (for postgraduate degrees by research).

International students must clear all their fees before study, which is about $9000 to $14000 annually. Fees vary depending on the level and the type of course. For example, undergraduate programs are much cheaper than master’s programs and arts courses are cheaper than science and engineering courses. Living expenses are much cheaper and one can apply for financial assistance in the form of a scholarship. You can work to pay for some living expenses but you are only allowed to work up to 20 hours in a week.
