Study in Singapore

One will most probably choose to study in Singapore because of its rich culture. Because of the potential for revenue from education, the government of Singapore decided to make it a world-class destination for anyone who wants to get a good education. Universities in Singapore have facilities that help scholars to guide their students. This is one of the best places to be if you want to experience a rich culture and still manage to get an education that will prepare you for your future. Singaporean education emphasises on the natural talents of their students and this is what makes it different from all other educational systems of the world. This approach to education has seen Singapore produce some of the best professionals in different fields of study. With the technological advancement of this Asian country, students can benefit from interaction with many other different cultures without so much effort. This has helped to broaden the talents of Singaporean students.

Traditionally, Singaporeans are law abiding and this is a country that is relatively safe and has great standards of living. With a large international students community in Singapore you will not feel alone. The education system in Singapore starts from pre-school and proceeds to primary school. Secondary schools consist of five years of education. It is at this level that the natural talents of students are honed to give them a professional career path when they join university. Pre-university level is entered when an applicant is through with the O level examination and has cleared it before one can join university.

Universities have two semesters and applications are received depending on the academic programs and calendars of the different institutions. International students need to have their transcripts and final certificates for the applications. You need to provide information about your academic qualification, talents and other personal particulars.  Undergraduate studies require an applicant to have finished secondary education and have passed the exam that is recognised by the institution. This is not always mandatory if you have provisional results and you can prove that you are in your final year of high school at the time of application for undergraduate courses. Applications will be confirmed once the final examination has been done.

Before the application, one has to sit the SAT examination, ACT or GMAT depending on which one is acceptable in your country. Also, one has to sit the TOEFL, IELTS and the MUET to test his proficiency in the English language. Postgraduate applications needs written essays, scores of the English proficiency exams, a résumé, transcripts and a recommendation form.

Grants are given by the Singaporean government for applicants who have been admitted and who will thus be required to pay the subsidized fees for study. Financial assistance will be given by anyone who meets the criteria and can come in the form of scholarships. International students are eligible for the tuition grant, if one does not already have a financial sponsorship except those who are studying graduate LLB programs.

To get a Singapore visa, one has to provide details of his travel documents, the school address he will be attending, his personal email address, a medical report and contact details of family. Once these details have been submitted to the IHL through SOLAR, one will be given the student’s pass. Applicants for a student’s pass must be accepted by the IHL (Institute of Higher Learning) and have to be accepted for fulltime studies in Singapore. Applications must be submitted at least one month before the commencement of the course and not more than two months. Applicants must be registered through SOLAR and must give accurate details when making the application.
