One cannot apply for an educational loan from a state funded university if he is an international student but you can get one if you are studying in a private university. In a private university, you have to have a permanent US resident signing the loan on your behalf and you can borrow as much money as you need to study for as long as you are in the United States.

There are two types of visas for study in the United States, the student visa and the exchange visitor visa. The student visa allows one to stay for as long as he is studying while the exchange visitor visa obligates one to go back home after studies and stay for at least two years before being granted a permanent resident visa.
